I know! I just finished it about an hour ago, I keep thinking of my favourite parts, and I'm trying to imagine what happens next. I think I'm too emotionally drained to read it again just yet, though. That book is an emotional roller coaster!

Who else is jealous of the souls' medicine? I want some of that No Pain right now...All the crying I did has resulted in a headache...

That book is such an emotional roller coaster. Stephenie Meyer is the only author that made it so I want to read the book RIGHT after I already read it. The next day..agh.

Ian, Edward and Rhett Butler are the fictional characters I find to be the perfect men. I placed Ian in that category right after I read the novel. Ah.

Question: Why was there two blank pages?

I have a pretty good guess, but I want a direct answer. I know I saw the question from the reports of the signings because it made me really curious, but I didn't want to spoil anything so I didn't read it, and now I can't find it.

was that after Wanderer was taken out of Melanie??

I think it was because she was out of it for so long, if that's the right bit!

wow....... just got done reading the Host. Stephenie is an impressive writer, i havent come across anything like her style. i love it. makes you feel like your one with the character... or even in his/her/its place. amazing.

at first i thought it was going to be an "Invasion of the Body Snatcher" type of thing.. if not familiar with that maybe you've seen Nichole Kidmans "The Invasion" which is a remake. but the "aliens" in that movie are crude cruel and do not care about human life. Souls are different.. they want to rid the universe of hate war famine bla bla bla. Kinda like our universal hippie aliens Razz

i dont know that i pity the humans. because the souls were doing what they were placed in the universe for. so i cant hate them. Wanderer/Wanda was definitely my favorite character, she was the most caring/loving/respectful fictional character i have ever read about and it makes me wonder what kind of person Stephenie really is at heart. She has to reflect all the good qualities of all our favorite characters.

and Jeb... OME I looooved Jeb he was great. I'm trying to picture who he would be if they made this into a movie lol. I cant yet...

and I cant choose a "Team Ian" or "Team Jared" because they are in love w/ 2 different "girls". So theres not really a team to pick Sad. But I didnt really like Jared... the physical abuse to Melanies body was a BIG no no... I didnt think he could hit her, even if she wasnt "Melanie" anymore.... but after awhile, I began to sympathize for him... So i dont hate him... Ian. omg. Thats all i have to say. oh. my. god. What a hunk of sweet caring burning HOT SEXY MAN! lol!!! but thats not why i like him... ok maybe it is Embarassed

over all..... this was one of the best books i have ever read. it was soo different, i loved every aspect of this book and hope there will be a sequel and if not.. oh well, i am VERY satisfied with this one! lol Props Stephenie Meyer! Another masterpiece well done!!

(ok i'm done i promise.... Embarassed )

Jared, well, Jared is hot. He's passionate. But he's in love with Melanie, and Melanie's body. When you think about it, it's all for Melanie, when they kiss etc. Nothing is there for Wanderer. And that's just selfish.

So I am Team Ian!!

I feel the same way Smile and I'm too team Ian!!

at the end of the book I was crying because I was sure that Wanda will die Sad

I was pissed at Stephenie for that...I was SURE that Wanda would be sent to a different world, and I thought it was the fire world..which made a lot of sense considering she's never been there. ((Like Isaid read the last two paragraphs)) but I was utterly PISSED that Stephenie would do that. And started to cry

Okay, so I just finished the book, and wow. LOVE IT!

Definitely was able to draw some parallels between characters in Twilight and here, some were fairly similar, which was a bit annoying at first.

Once I got into the story, I was completely enamored! I couldn't delve deep enough into the pages to get more, just like in Twilight. And I hate science fiction, so I was hesitant to read this at all, but gave it a shot because I love S.M.'s work (GBH).

I don't dislike Jared, but he wasn't my favorite character. I know he must have been ridiculously confused and torn, and I feel bad for him, and feel bad for not liking him because he was a good guy.

And Ian. I SO CALLED THAT HE LIKED WANDERED ON P. 290-SOMETHING. lol, I was quite proud of that one Very Happy I love that guy, that he saw the soul, Wanderer, and not Melanie's body (the things he said at the end, priceless, precious, amazing). I thought the book was going to be predictable.. totally wasn't.

I balled my eyeballs out multiple times. I was pissed at first when I thought it was the end of the book, after Wanderer "died". But I wouldn't have minded the ending. I actually thought it was the end for a good five minutes (My mind didn't computer there were way more pages left haha) and I thought to myself "holy crap, if she does this here, what is she gonna do in BD. how heartbreaking is that gonna be" but then she went and tied up all the lose ends, and I was thoroughly happy Very Happy

Yay I've just finished it =)

I have to say I never really belived Wanda would die..I didn't think SM would do that..but I was very sad anyway..

Emotional roller coaster is just the right expression I think... All these conflicts...

I'm team Ian all the way Wink From the point I realized that he was in love with Wanda he was such a gentle person to me..At least he is a figure that can give us hope..he may be invented but he's human and not as perfect as Edward after all..a lot more realistic =)

I'm not quite sure what to think of Jared..I can understand him being so much in love with Melanie although that's not a fully sufficient excuse for being so selfish..
I liked him more from Mel's memories than when I got to know him in person...I still like him in a way though

I think The Host doesn't need a sequel, but if Stephenie has the urge to create one than by all means.

I actually liked Jared...I even liked Ian when he strangled Wanda. I just saw the conflict going on inside Jared and just knew how hard it was for him and how he couldn't see his Melanie when her body was right in front of him. He was just...blocked by pain. He lost all of his family to this alien invasion, the only person he has left was connected to the love of his life who is now going. And then later...his connection becomes invovled with the alien inside of his love. That would get to a person.

I just...liked Ian so much when he noticed that Wanda wasn't lying, that first time. I'm so glad she was afraid ofhim at first..and he just took care of her. I have to read it again,. Ah..awesome.

So like some of you, it took me a while to get into the Host, but I am soooo in love with it. It was amazing. Stephenie Meyer is amazing. I've never loved characters like the ones she's created.

I love how she totally surprised me by making me love Ian. I was so expecting to love Jared. And there's things about him I like, but...Ian was just...wow.

ManiacsRose said:

Ian Ian Ian!!!!!! AAAHH!! I did NOT expect him...as Stephenie Meyer herself did not expect him...love Ian. Love. love love.

Does anyone what she means by that? I'd be interested in hearing what Stephenie said about the development of Ian. Is there an interview somewhere?

And someone else said they felt Ian and Edward were similar...but I totally saw it being Ian and Jacob. Other thoughts?

If you look up The Host Interviews..or go to BordersMedia. She talks about how Ian was supposed to be the 'second' bad guy...but he wouldn't allow her to do that. In that respect he was like Jacob, put himself into the story without her even realizing it...without her having outlined it etc. That's what Ian did in The Host.

Right here, doesn't say his name but it does talk about it. The first one I found after last night so I put it up:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3QoqSOhYyHU

I think Ian is a lot like Edward because of how polite and basically protective he is of Wanda. I just thought of Edward in some things that Ian said and did.

One thing that makes me like Ian even more:

When Wanda saw the dying souls and the little baby soul *sobs* it wasn't Jared who stayed with her. Sure, he was there for a split minute, but then gave up. Ian was there the entire time, just sitting with her. He didn't have to say anything, or do anything, he was just there. I know he cracked at the end, but that's not the point. The point is he was there!

One thing that makes me dislike Jared a bit more:

When I first read that Jared didn't want Kyle & Ian to kill Wanda, I was so happy, because I liked Jared at first. Then he stayed outside the cave, and didn't let anyone touch her, so I was YAY! Love you Jared! But then I really started to think about it, and the only reason he didn't let the others kill Wanda was because of Melanie, and that really struck me as selfish. Jared is a really really selfish person (sorry). He only ever wanted Melanie, he couldn't try to understand Wanda at all. That first kiss? Was because he had found out Melanie was still inside. EVERY time, it was for Melanie. He didn't care for Wanda AT ALL, and that made me mad. Mad

Also, does Kyle remind any of you of Kyle from Roswell??
