I know this is really anal retentive of me, but I get a perverse pleasure from correcting grammar. It's kind of sick. I hate when people misuse the English language and I love correcting them. That goes for correcting people when they speak and editing their papers. Haha I know.... that's really incredibly lame, but I need to know that I'm not the only one whose a stickler for syntax. Very Happy

Oh, definitely!

I'm kind of annoying that way. If you notice, all of my posts are capitalized, composed and punctuated correctly. I loathe the people who slaughter the English language. *sigh*

Great to know I'm not alone! Very Happy

It took me five minutes to write that! I am not that anal retentive. I will correct my students because I believe that they need to at least talk to adults in a correct and respectful manner. I try my best to write and speak using correct grammar and I will try for ya'll.

Or is it you all?

Or just you?

It seems that we have more in common than a name and a love for Twilight!

Yeah, bad grammar is painful. I especially hate when people use "ain't" (oddly, Firefox doesn't say that's spelled wrong but it says "okay" isn't correct...), and I live in an area where people use that "word" all the time!

Some people aregue that it is the contraction of am not and it is in the dictionary. However, my teacher said that just because it is in teh dictionary does not mean that you need to say it.

ANAL RETENTIVES UNITEEEE!

I don't have any strong feelings with regards to the word "ain't" but I realize that I don't use it, either Razz

It sounds a little too southern hick for me. And don't get me wrong, I love Southern hicks! Sweet Home Alabama! I love how they speak and everything. I'd just rather not apply it to myself. (:

YES! I honestly thought I was the only one. I am little by little using more internet lingo when on the internet but concerning speaking or writing a paper, I have to correct poor grammar. Ahh my one friend always confuses than and then and I get so frustrated. And when people confuse your and you're.... most of the time I don't correct other's mistakes, though. I just inwardly cringe.

Ya'll is fine with me. I sometimes find myself using it, but that's because my roommate is from the south and says it all the time. Very Happy

YAy Molly for our awesomeness!

The football team at Western has these shirts that say "Not one of us is as strong as all of us." It drives me crazy!

I'm the same way with cringing thing. I edit my resident;'s papers because I am nice sometimes. But, it is like sticking needles in my eyes. I sit and wonder sometimes if they ever wrote a paper in high school. They don't have thesis statements or citations! It is frustrating! This is why I went into math, I would deprive the world of red pens.

Ditto, I'm correcting people all the time. And I work with some people who cannot spell worth a damn and they all get irritated when I correct them. It's a bad habit.

Oh yes, I am really picky about grammar and spelling. Probably because my dad is an English teacher and pretty much drilled the correct usage into my head. I cannot help being so picky, lol. I had to try and help some kids in an English class edit their papers...and I so badly wanted to bust out a teacher pen and fix things.

Oh me and my OCD tendencies... Razz

Woot! Molly power!

Y'all is fine with me, too. Being from KY and having every relative except my two brothers being born below the southern TN border, I can't avoid saying some things. Y'all is one of them. Stuff like not pronouncing the "g" on -ing words and sometimes dropping the "th" in them just happens when I speak.

Every teacher I've had so far in college who has graded a paper of mine says "Where's your thesis?" It drives me crazy because there is always one there! Evil or Very Mad

Apparently teachers aren't supposed to grade using red ink anymore...It wounds children's egos or something.

You know that is true. We are told in our Education classes not to use red. I was going to say purple, but I did not think that anyone else would know what I was talking about! Smile

My mum gets really cross at me, cos I sometimes at an 's' to the end of sentences when they are not needed.. like saying 'Anyways...". And she cannot stand when people say New Year's, without putting the 'eve' into it. So that's been drilled into me a bit.

That's what you get though, for having a mother who is British AND a teacher...

Why does red ink wound children's egos? What's the difference between writing an F in red or an F in purple? You still get an F!
