In May of 2009, I was visiting a friend and his 11 year old daughter said to me, " I can not believe you have not read Twilight" I said " Isn't that a book for teen and tweens". She said "yes, but all of the moms like it also".
Well, I'm am 47 year old, married African American mom of 3, A 16 year old Autistic son Travis, a 10 year old ballet princess daughter Morgan and a 4 year old terror son Anderson. I work fulltime and I'm on the board of directors for 3 non profit organizations. I do not think, I have read a novel since I finish my masters program in 1993. I have been strictly magazines and the internet for reading. I would look at books in the bookstore and think, when would I get time to read that.
Growing up, I loved reading. Before, marriage and kids - reading was a vital part of my life. So, I was intrigued by the little girl's passion for the book. I saw the first two books in Costco, I was chaperoning my daughter's 5th grade trip to Washington D.C for the week in June, and I thought it would be the perfect to get some recreational reading in. Needless to say, I read and got hooked.
Over, the next month, I read all 4 books and bought the audio books- which I have listen to several times.
My daughter and I made a summer reading program of it. We caught all the articles on the internet, we have looks up web- sites, and we have watched the you-tube videos, we have read fan writing . My cleaning lady, that comes ever other week has been looking at the house thinking- what is going on here- (smile). I am going to attend the convention in LA in March of 2010.We are hooked. I was ready to seek counseling,( I live in LA that what we do) but I found like minds online- I am not alone. I look forward to being involved. Look forward to connecting with other- Twilight fans especially those in Los Angeles. Thanks for being there.
