I don't really find Bella annoying. I just think she's got issues, especially with all the mess during Eclipse. Part of that I blame on Jacob for being so manipulative of her, which is one of the reasons why I dislike him, and Bella just doesn't seem to get that she is being manipulated by him. Anyways, I think that the reason I don't view Bella as annoying is that I put myself in her position and I realize that I would probably act as she is during those moments and then I realize that those are just her reactions to things. I think the trick to not finding her annoying at all is to try and get into her mind a little more.

I think being in her mind is the problem...She's kind of selfish and everything is about her, you know? I know this is from a first person point of view, but come on....
One time in Twilight she and Edward were talking about Edward, and she asked something like "How do you think you got here?" (meaning vampires in general) and he was like "I don't know...Why did the same power that created the baby seal create the killer whale? The angelfish and the shark?" and Bella said "Let me guess, I'm the baby seal, right?" A completely unnecessary turn of the conversation to herself.

I've never really thought of Bella as selfish before, but thinking about it, I can see how it might be true. Originally my thought was "that girl isn't selfish at all - she moved from Phoenix (which she loves) to Forks (which she hated) in order to allow her mother to live with Phil.

But then I started thinking, and I realized that the way that Bella approached wanting to be turned into a vampire was extremely selfish. I tried to put myself in her position - and realized how ridiculous it was that she was willing to be changed so immediately without thinking about the consequences, especially what she would put her parents through, who love her.

I can't imagine even thinking about being turned without a solid plan of how to approach it. Her eagerness to be turned immediately is really disturbing. Charlie is a good father to her, and thinking that your daughter died has got to be one of the worst things in the world - the selfishness in willing to do that to someone is incredible; even inhumane.

Don't get me wrong, I do believe it would be in Bella's best interest to turn into a vampire and live with Edward forever. But, I do think that she needs to figure out a way to do it so her parents don't think she is dead.

I think the problem is that Bella is a teenager and when she is contrasted with someone like Edward that has lived for so long and is so mature she comes off as being incredibly childish, which she is because she is still young. It's true that she is beyond her years as she has matured very quickly and maybe that is why she is acting so childlishly now. The only other person that is like that is Jacob and that is because he is even younger than her.

Oh dear, it looks like I'm the only one Bella doesn't annoy.

I have to say, I love Bella, Edward and Jake, and none of them annoy me. That's a lie. Jake annoys me a wee bit, but it's mainly because he's a young boy who's making mistakes - but that's just who he is, and I can forgive that. As someone else said, if you love someone, you take them as they are, warts and all. And I really like Jacob.

Bella doesn't annoy me when she's being selfish. Mainly because I don't think she's being selfish on purpose. Remember, Bella is just a normal girl - yet she's having to deal with the fact that her boyfriend in a vampire, her best friend is a werewolf, they both wouldn't mind all that much if they happened to kill the other, and there are some nasty newborns coming to twon and Victoria wants her dead. That is a hell of a lot to cope with, and I think it's fair enough that she'll make mistakes along the way. And all her selfish acts are based on love, really - it's not just for herself, she doesn't want these people getting hurt.
That was all Eclipse, really. Back track to New Moon. Ok so it could be considered selfish how she treated Jake, but she needed him. Without him, god knows what would have happened to her. But he needed her too. I have no doubt that her being kind of on the outside helped him when he became a werewolf, he had someone else to talk to, to confide in. They needed each other, and they both took comfort from each other. It's only natural that something grew from that.

As to the Edward - Jake competition.. I have no problem with what either of them did. I think it was a bit harsh for Jake saying he'd let himself get killed in the fight, but Edward isn't completely innocent either. But I think it's understandable. They're both having to face with losing the one they love, and they're doing all they can to try and keep her. They may not have gone the right way about it, but it's understandable.

Perhaps I'm just too empathetic, lol.

I totally agree with everything you said. Laughing

Does Bella ever get on your nerves?

After about the third time I read them she was getting pretty annoying to me.

It seems kind of blasphemous to say that, but it's true.

When I re-read Twilight, I couldn't Bella how negative Bella was. I never noticed it before - as the main character to me she was flawless (except for her character flaws, of course - I know contradiction!)

Everything in that first chapter is negative. Forks, leaving Arizona, the greeness, going to school and Edward's attitude towards her at the start. Which brings me to my next point - she's extremely neurotic. She is constantly worried about other people's opinions, especially Edward's at the start. It's insaneness!

I don't like her any better in New Moon either. Especially in 'The End.' She was a wimp for letting him go. Okay, so he is a vampire with super strength, but I wouldn't've let him go. She didn't even kick up a fight. "If that's what you want..." ARGH! Fight for your man girl!
Then she was selfish enough to not see what her actions were doing to Jacob and she even encouraged him. She wouldn't be in such a problem now if she had've let Jacob down gently. Yes, he made her warm and fuzzy inside and brought her out of her depression. But I'm Team Edward. She's meant to be with Edward.
