Random, I know, but I was just wondering.
How many of you use Mac (Apple) computers, and how many use Windows (PCs)?
Personally, I'm a Mac girl myself. They're easier to use, prettier, and rarely crash Smile

I use Windows because my dad thinks HP computers are the best and insists that we all use one... Rolling Eyes (And by "insists...one" I mean "he gets a brand new Sony Viao while my brothers and I have to lug around ten-pound pieces of shit.")

I went to College with a black MacBook.

Then, in the summer I purchased an HP.

I use the HP in my room, and I bring the MacBook to class. They both are AMAZING. So I can't vote in your poll, 'cause I adore them both.

(Why did I purchase a PC when I had a brand spakin' new Mac? I got the PC because I play World of Warcraft and you can't have addons with a Mac. ) Rolling Eyes

I'm a Windows girl.

I've used Windows all my life, and it's the one I'm most familiar with. Dad would never buy an Apple, so we've always gone HP, I'm pretty sure.

I'd like to get a iBook, actually as my preferred choice of laptop. Everyone says Mac is better (plus with an iPod you get iTunes and iTunes is from Apple and I'm anal like that where I have to have the same of everything.

But I think though, when I do get my laptop, I'll go Windows - hopefully still XP and Microsoft 2003. I can't stand the new one - it's too complicated for me!
I'm hoping to get one of the Dell laptops, the coloured ones!

I don't want to open a new topic...I hope this is the right place anyway =)

I am planning to get a notebook for university and I'd love to get a macbook =)
It would be great if those of you who own a Mac could help me with my decision...
I'm wondering whether you ever had problems with compatibility with windows computers? What kind of office programs do you use?
Does anyone use a mac notebook for university? What exactly do you use it for?

Soo that's basically the questions I reflect on =) I hope someone can help me =)

edit for typing error

macbook's are great little machines. i can do basically anything with my macbook pro a pc can do... just alot more faster Wink. You can use Microsoft programs, i have word, excel, power point ect ect. its just that you have to buy that bundle specifically for the mac... just like a pc.

i use my macbook pro, for graphic design. Taking notes in class, you can also do video chat, ect. I love apple. I use to be a pc person, and got bogged down with virus's and a slow running computer that always had to be updated. my mac, not so much at all, i don't have to worry about virus's or any of that. Support is friendly, but you do pay for what you are getting (pricy machine).

If you are only taking notes tho, using word and such a regular laptop would do just fine, and alot cheaper as well. It truly depends on what you are using it for.

Thanks a lot for your reply!

I don't even know how I'm going to have to used it at universtity..I guess I'll need to log on to their server to download files, make notes and do presentations.
I don't know if I'm going to buy office for mac right from the beginning....I guess I'll try a program that's free, like open office, first, since I've heard that office 2008 still has a lot of bugs and doesn't run properly..plus it's not really cheap =) I can still buy it when I really need it!

I wouldn't buy a macbook pro anyway, but the medium macbook...I finally want to try a Mac, because people say that they run with not nearly as many problems as windows computers..and they look soo pretty =) Plus I made good experiences with itunes and my ipods..so I think apple stuff is really good!

So you didn't have any problems communicating or exchanging files with windows users?

Macs should be fine to do all of that, downloading files and so forth. If your going to a large university, there should be no problems. It would only matter if you are using extremely specialty programs, but i seriously doubt it. Acrobat reader, office programs all work. and if your worried about office 08... *cough cough... u can always download... Wink *

anyways if you are really worried about pc/mac programs, wonderful people at apple have also thought about that problem (if there is one). u can get a program called parrelels, or boot..somethin, that actually can run your mac like a pc! and switch versa. Tho i've never needed to do this.

I would only see this needed if its like a really unique program, or if your a really big gamer (most games are designed to run on the pc rather than on macs)

I've been using Windows ever since. I haven't used a Mac, though I would love to try.
