The correcting? I do it all the time. Not just with English, but when I watch quiz shows and such, too. My family is downright annoyed with me most of the time.

Fanfiction.. *sigh* People should really get a beta no matter how good their spelling and grammar and overall plot and whatnot is. It is good to have a second opinion on _everything_.
But some of the teenage authors (they really don't deserve that name) should be banned from archives permanently. I read a lot of sh*t because I am in the Harry Potter fandom but Twilight Rolling Eyes All human?! Please, that statement makes me want to flame your story.

lol

I do not think that you are the only one. I hate it when I see things that are misspelled or grammatically incorrect. It just makes our society as a whole look bad.

The you're/your thing makes me want to kill people. (I am a member of that facebook group, too, btw).

And I hate when people think that they can write like they want to just because it is the internet. "Yes, I am using proper grammar and spelling when I am writing my homework." Errr, yes? Why don't in the net, too? YOu hurt more people online with your bad usage than in school where just your teacher has to read your mess. *grrr*

*deep breath* *calm down*
Yes, yes, I am exactly the same.

And the red discussion is ridiculous. Mistake is mistake. Whether it is marked with red or green.

Cosmo-Jenny, you took every reason out of my mouth as to why I do NOT read fan fiction. I can't stomach it. It makes me queasy. And it sucks, because I love fan fiction. I only read it if it is recommended, which means there is a better chance that I am not going to waist my time looking at the "omzg edward luvvrd bellz cuzz she wuz butifool n seckzy."

I know this is really anal retentive of me, but I get a perverse pleasure from correcting grammar. It's kind of sick. I hate when people misuse the English language and I love correcting them. That goes for correcting people when they speak and editing their papers. Haha I know.... that's really incredibly lame, but I need to know that I'm not the only one whose a stickler for syntax. Very Happy

I's the truth though, isn't it? I mean seriously, how hard is it to get a beta for a fanfic story or just pick up an English textbook? Grr.... (and that's about as far as I can go to sound irritated haha) Mr. Green

hahahaha I understand you so much, because I'm just like that but in my native language (Spanish) and people doesn't use the written accent and their spelling is so horrible!! so I'm always correcting them hehehe
That's true, when somebody writes wrong you can't understand him haha (it happends frequently with the accents in Spanish).

I'll ask all of you a little thing: Please be patients with me, I do my best effort to write rightly Embarassed I keep learning and this forum helps me so much Smile

You inspire me. I am a Spanish minor, and am trying to find ways to speak to people in Spanish over the internet, but the best place I have found so far is Second Life, haha. That is awesome though, your English is fantastic! Keep it up!

As for the discussion at hand (even though I've jumped in a bit late), I have to agree with pretty much all of the above. In my Education classes, we are also taught not to use red pens. I understand why, but again, don't believe it will seriously disturb one of my future students. And, I totally lost my train of thought so I'll just stop. haha

Since English is my second language, of course I've had some people correcting my grammar and what have you... It was quite Shocked and Sad to me, but so far I've improved which is good.

Most of the time when I talk to a few people on MSN, they'd notice how I'm very mature for my age, which is weird when I'm acknowledging it on the spot for some reason. One guy told me that it was very cute of me when I use capitals and full stops in every sentences.

I'm doing an English: Images of Adolescence course and it's really fun. I got 80% on my in class essay and that was quite mind-boggling because I felt like I've give the wrong essay. Laughing
