LOL, no, that is pretty bad, I agree. I just couldn't help but think of Carlisle when I saw "compassionate".

Whenever I think of Mike I think this:

Mike: Mummy!
(runs up to his mother and gives her a hug, crying)
Mike: A vampire stole my girlfriend!

LOL, what if Mike's mom got with Charlie? Poor Mike, as if all of his hopes and dreams couldn't be crushed any further.

I did wonder whether or not there was something going on there, coz every time Bella mentions the Mike to Charlie, Charlie is always "Oh the Newtons this, this Newtons that."

Maybe one specific Newton?

Yeah, I mean, it wouldn't be hard to believe that Mike still has a small glimmer of hope that Bella will leave Edward and hook up with him. As blatantly unlikely as it is, i'm betting he still hopes. Charlie and his mom hooking up would crush that glimmer, just crush it.

I read a fanfic on FF.com that's still being worked on called "Pregnant Vampire Bella Joins the Army"... essentially the two authors of the story decided to write a farce based on all the insane Fanfics out there with completely ludicrous plots. She gets pregnant with Jacob's baby after she phases into a werewolf, and the authors have vowed not to stop writing until they get her changed and into the US Armed Forces as well. It's so hilarious.
