I admit the night after I bought Twilight and finished it, I went to the bookstore the next day and bought both New Moon and Eclipse, fully knowing I couldn't buy one without the other.

I *shuffles a bit* skipped one class and read through the first few chapters. At first, I didn't catch Edward's inflection when he said he didn't want Bella. I didn't believe it. I couldn't believe it. He loved her! How could have Bella doubted it so much? Did she really think he wasn't meant to be with her, that she didn't deserve him at all?

For the months' chapters, I did cry. I don't usually cry over books, (movies yes, but books no). But I cried in this one. It was a bit embarrassing crying in public over a book. Embarassed

Luckily no one really paid attention. Wink

I cried so hard for the months chapters too, I was lucky I was alone, because I really lost it.

I finished Twilight and then bought the two others, in hard-cover the next day. I spent about 50 dollars on those books and I'm not ashamed. lol.

When I read the month chapters...at first I'm like "what?" And then I just said "Stephenie is a genius, superb." I didn't cry because it was so shocking and I was in complete awe at the creativity.

I hear you, i actually bought all three at once (the first time I read Twilight it was a library copy). Best 65 bucks I have EVER spent. Unfortunately, someone ruined New Moon for me by saying "Oh, you'll hate Edward in New Moon! But he's back in Eclipse. And Jake's a werewolf". Booo. So I'm happy to have an experience reading BD without someone telling me beforehand.
Despite knowing that, NM was still very sad for me to read.

Needless to say, I was up until like 5am reading. Now when I read it I can usually only read up to the point where Edward tells Bella that he doesn't love her and doesn't want to be with her and by then I'm usually balling my eyes out and have to flip to where she meets up with Edward again in order to make myself feel better.

Yep. I'm THAT pathetic.

Then apparently I'm that pathetic too Smile Only I didn't cry...I just like the connection between Bella and Edward more than her and Jacob.

However, when my friend read NM it took her longer than it did me and I remember one of the days her and I and another friend went to the beach and she just laid there, fully clothed, with her face in the sand and didn't want to do anything. I realized later on after she confessed it was due to the fact that she was reading NM and was so depressed that Edward was gone. lol. (Needless to say, my other friend and I had a blast splashing around in the waves that day!)

omg THANK GOD I WAS NOT THE ONLY ONE! SO PRETTY MUCH TEH SAME HAPPENED TO ME I CRIED SO MUCH THAT NIGHT I READ NEW MOON I TOO DID NOT PUT IT DOWN UNTIL 4 OR 5 IN THE MORN TO TEH POINT THAT I KNEW SOMEONE HAD COME BACK TO CHECK UP ON BELLA I MEAN I JUST IT TRIGGERED MY EMOTIONS..NOT ONLY WAS I ALREADY EMOTIONALLY UNSTABLE DURING THAT TIME THAT I READ IT THE FIRST TIME....BECAUSE I WAS PASSIN BY A VERY HARDD TIME WITH A GUY MY BEST FRIEND ACTUALLY AND WELL IT KINDA MADE ME BRING OUT ALL THE PAIN I HAD BEEN HOLDING UP INSIDE AND i REMEMBER BEING IN MY ROOM BY MY SELF EVERYONE ELSE ASLEEP AND I CLOSED MY DOOR CUZ I DIDNT WANT ANYBODY TO HEAR ME SO YEAH IT WAS A VERY HARD THING TO READ BUT FOR SOME REASON I COULDNT STOP READING IT ...I THINK I HAVE SMEARS ON TEH PAGES OF THE BOOK LOL

I liked New Moon when I first read it, but then after reading it and Eclipse and then over again, I started to get cross a lot with Bella, and didn't want to read it though I knew I needed to

Yea...I got my friend to start reading, and for once I'm not giving anything away. It's crazy awesome. She's going to read the New Moon and Eclipse and then we'll be going to a big fiesta when Breaking Dawn comes out. Whether it be in VT or ME, I don't care. We're going..lol.

New Moon was the most "relatable" because sometimes i could identify with her depressed and numb parts and the breakup/get-back-together parts. still, i have to say that it was THE WORST book in the series. don't get me wrong, i absolutely LOVE all the books, i just think that the book with the least Edward-presence and Bella corruptedness is a bit less attractive. i think that's why some friends of mine won't read New Moon, but i'm still trying to encourage them into it. The ending's great!

The middle's great, too!

I just made a friend promise me that she would read NM twice before reading Eclipse, and halfway through her first time she text me asking if Edward would be back... Rolling Eyes

Agreed---the middle is good stuff! Despite Bella's pain and barely being able to function, it's cool to watch her grow and see how she is without Edward around. It's the turning point of her and Edward's relationship, in my opinion, because beforehand in twilight I got the impression that their relationship was really one sided. Edward made all the decisions, etc, because Bella was pretty much in awe of him, and of him wanting to be with her. Because of New Moon, their relationship becomes more even because he feels so guilty and she realizes that she could survive without him (even if she was extremely, utterly, unhappy). Sorry, am rambling on a bit here.

Rambling or not, you make a good point. I've never really paid attention before to how that evened out their relationship. Although, I do think she holds it over his head a bit too much...

Really? The only times I can maybe see her holding it over his head is when he goes hunting and Alice is holding her hostage, and then when she asks him to stay with her during the fight against the newborns. But I feel like he beats himself up over it just as much, if not more.

I agree with Morgan. Of course she probably looks sad and scared about him leaving a lot of the time, because her face is an open book...you have to be easy to read in some respects.

Edward is the type of being who would beat himself up until he bled, or made it up to the person. It still strikes my heart that he was going to die because she did. *sigh* Even though I knew he was going to, it wasjust...so Edward and Romantic.

Ok...I love the ending of New Moon.

I love New Moon! I find it so difficult to read, emotionally, because of what Bella goes through. It's torture, and I have to push myself through it - however, I don't cry myself, it's just far TOO BIG for tears for me, if that makes any sense. However, I like how Bella doesn't cope too well with what's happened. I think it makes the character more human - rather than some amazing heroine from a novel that's brilliant and brave, etc. Also, I think her pain and how long she's in pain hits home just how much she loves Edward; if anyone doubted before hand, there's no way they can when reading NM.

Also, I am a big Jacob fan. He makes reading NM worth while. I know some people don't like him, but I think he's just so lovely. And the way Bella describes him is completely right, the sun. He makes NM bareable for me.

I agree with those who say that Edward leaving was necessary. Not only does it make them more balanced, as people have said, but I think also that their love can survive, that it's the real deal. They both realise by the end of the book that the other does really love them.
It was also necessary for Edward to leave plot wise so that we got Jake's story. There was no-way Bella would really have given Jake the time of day with Edward around before NM, even if she did like him.
