Edward Leaving Parallels Buffy and Angel

“Of course, I’ll always love you… in a way. But what happened the other night made me realize that it's time for a change. Because I’m…tired of pretending to be something I’m not, Bella. I am not not human. I’ve let this go on much too long, and I’m sorry for that.”

Edward Leaving Parallels Buffy and Angel

Alright guys. So I was watching an episode of Buffy today, and was seriously stunned when watching this one scene. Angel decides that he needs to leave Buffy for her own good, because she can't have a normal life with him. After seeing this episode, I really think Stephenie must have watched Buffy. First, here are the New Moon quotes:

Edward: I'm no good for you Bella.
Bella: Don't be ridiculous. You're the very best part of my life.
Edward: My world is not for you. I don't want you to come with me.
Bella: You don't want me?
Edward: No.
Bella: Well, that changes things.
Edward: Of course, I'll always love you ... in a way. But I'm tired of pretending to be something I'm not. I'm not human. I've let this go on much too long, and I'm sorry about that.
Bella: Don't do this.
Edward: You're not good for me, Bella.
Bella: If ... that's what you want.

Now read this:

Buffy: Don't what? Don't love you? I'm sorry. You know what? I didn't know that I got a choice in that. I'm never gonna change. I can't change. I want my life to be with you.
Angel: I don't.
Buffy: You don't want to be with me? I can't believe you're breaking up with me.
Angel: It doesn't mean that I don't ...
Buffy: How am I supposed to stay away from you?
Angel: I'm leaving.
Buffy: Where?
Angel: I don't know.
Buffy: Is this really happening?

..... Alright, not gonna lie, but in comparing these two scenes, I think I like Buffy more. I still can't believe that Bella didn't stand up for herself more.

Anyway, more Buffy parallels:

Willow: Yeah, I think he is. I mean, I tried to hope for the best, but... I'm sorry. It must be horrible.
Buffy: I think horrible is still coming. Right now, it's worse. Right now, I'm just trying to keep from dying. (her face contorts in pain)
Willow: Oh Buffy.
(Buffy leans over into Willow's lap and starts sobbing.)
Buffy: I can't breathe, Will. I feel like I can't breathe.

----------

Buffy: Could we not, please? When I think about us, I have this tendency to sort of go catatonic.

-----------

The entire time I watched this episode, I felt like I was watching New Moon. It was insane.
The episode is called "Prom" and it's in season 3.

You have to also take into consideration that Buffy has been kicking vampire/demon ass since the beginning. She had months or years of defending herself. Even though it's the bad guys she's killing...it still hurts. Every murder, if you're good, is a hit on your soul even if it is for a good reason.

Bella on the other hand...she was a newbie. This was basically her first time even having any kind of love for another human being, besides her parents. She finally found her soul-mate...her love, her destiny etc. She didn't have the wall that Buffy did.

Well..she had a wall, but you get what I mean. I hope.

Another parallel, not Edward leaving but just a Bella/Edward thing.

Buffy: I'm sorry....I just don't like getting you worked up like that. We can't actually do any of those things. You'd lose your soul. Besides, I don't even own a kimono.
Angel: Buffy, you don't have to worry about me.
Buffy: I just don't like to rub your nose in it. Suddenly wondering where that expression comes from....
Angel: I don't need to see movies to get worked up, just being around you does that just fine. It doesn't mean that I'm going to lose control, that I'm going to be frustrated with you. It feels nice just to feel.
Buffy: It doesn't drive you crazy...when we're close?
Angel: Watch this. *kisses Buffy* See? Safe as houses.

aww I love their relationships!! ♥
Aren't they so cute??
you're totally right! Stephenie should think about Buffy and Angel. It's really a coincidence?

Another one:

Buffy touched a demon and contracts one of it's attributes, which was telepathy. She was talking to Giles and asked, "Do you know what we could do with this?" and Giles said something like, "You could use it to see what your opponent is going to do. You could you his own moves against him."

Oh, and she can't get into Angel's mind. But that's only because he's a vampire.

Made me think of Edward.

sorry this isnt about new moon or even the twilight series but in stephenies book the Host she uses the saying

"safe as houses"
over and over again

and in mollys previous post in Buffy they say
"safe as houses"
so maybe stephenie did watch buffy?

I have a hard time believing Stephenie Meyer didn't watch Buffy at all. I mean, maybe she really didn't before hand, but if you have this random dream about a vampire love story, then you start writing it, and telling people, someone would have to say "hmm, like Buffy?" - I mean, she must have watched it at some point. If it were me, I'd be curious. Although I suppose it might get in the way, I wouldn't want it messing with my vision of my story or influencing it, but.. still... how could you not watch after that??

And on a side note - I miss Buffy. SO MUCH. Why hasn't Joss Whedon made a movie yet? I mean come on.
Alice: “I’ll play you for it. Rock, paper, scissors.”
Edward: “Why don’t you just tell me who wins?”
Alice: “I do. Excellent.”
