Okay, so you are all probably sick of me asking for help all the time, but I was wondering if I can ask for your help again...
I recently got lj, and am still having difficulty setting it up. cosmo_jenny gave me directions on how to stick a layout in, and I've been trying to follow them, but it still doesn't seem to work. Thanks all million, too, cosmo_jenny, for trying to help me, I really appreciate it.
Okay, so you are going to have to be patient with me on this one.
I've chosen the layout I want. I'm pretty sure I'm happy with this one, from http://community.livejournal.com/premade_ljs/33773.html.
Now what do I do?
Please help, this is really frustrating me still!! _________________

I don't know anything about LJ...but when I clicked the link it took me to the 404 Not Found error page. Might want to check that link again. _________________

hmm ok i don't know how to apply the layout directly from the link (i get a 404 too) but here's the way i usually do it:
click on journal -> customize journal
then you get a list of layouts. the ones you can use have a green button beneath them, saying apply layout. that's where you click and you're done
it's possible that you won't be able to use pre-made layouts from comms, like the one you chose, because don't have a paid or plus account. _________________ oh Cedric....you're hotter when you're Edward Cullen!

sorry, that link you can only access as a friend...
so dazzle_me, what you are saying is that I can only choose from the ones listed in the 2. Select a New Theme bit, because I don't have a paid account? Do you have to have a paid or plus account to get good layouts? Because those themes are shoddy.
Grr. this makes me mad!
Okay - so I've got the layout I want. It has this thing - (How to Install). I click on this, and it brings up a six step guide for installing.
It then says:
1. Go to journal and click on Edit Journal Style.
This is where I'm stumped. I don't have this on my account! _________________

| If you have a side bar go to Journal and then Customize. Then you get the "Choose Journal Style".

uhm yeah you pretty much only get sucky layouts with a free account. it's stupid...but keep looking around, at some point you'll fin one you'll like. hopefully. took me forever too, but i like my current one: http://tally-ann.livejournal.com (add me if you like! )
the journal and edit journal thing is on the top of the page...you go to lj, log in and then there's your "hone page" sorta thing. and on the top bar it says "home", "journal", "friends" and stuff like that. and that's where you have to hold your cursor on "journal", o menu will expand and you can choose "edit journal style" or "customize journal" or whatever
i'm no good at explaining things, sorry _________________ oh Cedric....you're hotter when you're Edward Cullen!

i think you can't get rid of the ads...sadly.
oh and you can't really lock your entire journal, but you can lock each post individually. there's this "visible for..." thing at the very bottom when you're making a post, next to spellcheck and under music and mood (you'll see it) and there, you can choose to make the entry public or only visible for your lj-friends _________________ oh Cedric....you're hotter when you're Edward Cullen!

great, thanks for that!
Shame about the ads, they are kind of irritating!!
Actually, it's all starting to fall into place now.
Except...
how do you make it 'Friends Only'? I've noticed this on lots of accounts, where you can only read their posts if you are a friend. Or is that what you meant, dazzle_me, when you referred to the 'visible for...' thing? _________________

yeah that's the "visible for" thing
sorry i should have been more precise
what a lot of people do is: make one public entry, with a banner saying "friends only" and then make all their other entries friends only/only visible for lj-friends. _________________ oh Cedric....you're hotter when you're Edward Cullen!
