Chapter 1

What is Edward is really thinking? Get inside the mind of everyone’s favorite vampire.

Chapter 1

Postby essa01 on Wed Apr 09, 2008 9:24 am

A teeny bit spoiler-ish. So, don't read unless you want to.

What did you all think?

I think that it was VERY interesting. It's a far more intense book than Twilight. You get to see into the mind of our favorite vampire! For example, we all knew he wanted to drink Bella's blood... we all knew she was his singer. But did you anticipate that he would have killed an entire class? Or that when he left, he had every intention of coming back to kill Bella? (is this allowed here? Please let me know if it's not :P)

He also heard the minds of the other students which is really interesting. We also get a look at how they react and such.

And what about Jasper? (sorry, I'm trying not to spoil anything here.. so for those who've read, you probably know what I'm talking about) what happens after that scene?

It's all very fascinating and, in many ways, a very Vampire novel.

About Edward & Jasper

Postby Mizra on Wed Apr 09, 2008 3:52 pm

Hmm, I've read through a few times, and I was definitely a little shocked at the emotion and feelings boiling in Edward when he first met Bella. Honestly, if this was never posted, I don't think even of us would have realized how monsterous he felt.

It almost makes me afraid of him in that respect. Almost.

As for Jasper, I never realized how hard it was for him until reading New Moon. And his past being revealed in Eclipse made it all the more visual.

Apparently, resisting what you were made to be is harder than we expected. It doesn't seem that way from Bella's perspective. More of "mind over matter".

Midnight Sun got me curious into this Whitney person. I wonder who she is and why she was significant enough to be mentioned... Hm... Jasper gets more and more interesting :P

With regards to Bella, I think she may have a really hard time adjusting. I don't know... I mean, I understand the whole "mind over matter" thing Edward keeps talking about. But she's gonna be a new-born and we all know how thirsty they get.

I was thining of that very thing. But with her natural aversion to blood as a human will come into play somehow, I think. I don't think that if it was such an unimportant factoid that Ms. Meyer wouldn't let it be in the book. I'm not entirely sure, however.

But we all know it will happen now. I hope this isn't spoiling anything, but did anyone read the post from BellaandEdward.com? The slogan for Breaking Dawn has been posted. :D

Yeah, the slogan was posted on TT.

I know Bella has aversion to blood... but it's impossible to be a vampire and not WANT blood. It may help lessen the need and desire.... but it'll definitely still be there.

That's true. I thought maybe there might be something there. Guess we'll find out in a few months, right? :)

Whitney person? Apparently I need to go re-read the first chapter.

I loved the chapter, because it has a such a totally different tone from Twilight. A lot more dark, mysterious, as it should be.

Whitney was the little girl that caught Jasper's attention. I'm not actually sure if she's little... but she was younger than them.

I'm really embaressed that I don't remember that all. I'm running off to look at it now so I don't feel like an awful, uninformed Twilight fan.

I loved this! I thought it was great. I actually preferred it to Twilight, the first chapter of Midnight Sun. I loved Edward's language and everything. It was good to understand what was going through his head, and to know how he feels.
Sometimes when I read Twilight, I get frustrated with Edward cos I don't understand him, what he's thinking (lol). Midnight Sun really put that into perspective for me.

I felt really bad for Edward after reading that chapter. I mean, SM tells us repeatedly in the 3 books how hard it is for him to be around her because of how attractive her blood is to him but this actually gives us a sense of just how bad it is...desperation to have it to the point where he plots out killing the entire class. And I was really surprised that he really was going to kill Bella. Like you all said, it's a completely different tone from "Twilight" but it was fascinating and I really hope that she publishes it some day.

And it was also interesting to read about Jasper and the way Edward and Alice's talents work together like that. I guess I just never really sat and thought about how the two of them played off each other until after I read that.

I agree. Before, you don't realise how bad it was for Jasper, even after Eclipse. But Midnight Sun puts a whole new perspective on that. It made me sympathise for Jasper even more, especially with the New Moon incident.
