Okay so there are four books in this trilogy I just bought (lol) and I read them overf our days cos they were excellent.
They were the Uglies trilogy, by SCott Westerfeld. And they were brilliant! Definately recommend them to ANYBODY, science fiction fan or not.
Westerfeld writes reasonably well for a YA author, but unforunatley writes the romantic bits for a G audience. Which sucks. Cos I'm in love with David. And I'm like KISS KISS KISS KISS MAKE OUT! But yeah... they are good books.
And I just went to his website and he's written a vampire novel, called Peeps. Here's what's written about it:
Quote:
peeps
"Both medical thriller and science fiction, this fast-paced,
captivating modern vampire story is enriched with biology and history. . .
Entrancing throughout—but squeamish readers beware."
—Kirkus Reviews, starred review
Some days you wake up, and you just have to write a vampire novel.
I know, I know, there is no shortage of vampire novels already out there. If you search Amazon for "vampire" you get 2,616 books to choose from. There are opera-loving vampires, horny vampires, southern vampires, emotional vampires, bondage-loving vampires, and (of course) Canadian vampires who solve crimes.
Maybe there are too many vampire novels, I thought. But that was part of the challenge, to see if I could do something that felt new and interesting, while still being full of bitey goodness. (Unsurprising confession: I am a Buffy fan.) So the book had to be original, but also icky, scary, funny, tragic, and (ahem) not sucky.
Besides getting a new take on the sunlight-impaired, my other big concern was that my vampires should actually make some sense as far as science goes. So I started doing some vampire research, reading a bunch of books about rats, parasites, bites and stings, and biology.
After consuming all there was to know on these subjects, I came up with the four important features that any vampire novel (of mine) had to include:
natural selection,
sexual attraction,
parasitic infection,
and Elvis memorabilia.
Okay, I can't tell you much more without giving the whole thing away. But I'm very happy with the results. And the cover is certainly cool.
omg omg omg *hyperventalating* so you have no idea whatta gold mine you just stumbled upon. READ EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING YOU CAN GET YOUR HANDS ON BY SCOT WESTERFELD!! lol. im almost as obsessed with him as i am with sm. peeps has a sequal The Last Days. i also recomend So Yesterday by him. _________________ Twilight; where love sparkles, lust runs, and the weakest charecter holds the most power.

mmm has anyone read the vampire diaries? i would want to meet damon in a dark alley wayyy any nightt. ;D
right now im reading Goddess Of The Night by Lynne Ewing. Its the first book in the daughters of the moon series and so far so good.
if your looking for a really light read i reccomend the books about the Casson family by Hilary McKay. its really easy read but so funny. that family of oddballs cracks me up and the way she writes keeps you reading and interested in the story.
lets see then theres:
Sea Of Trolls by Nancy Farmer.
Once Upon a Marrigold by Jean Ferris
all of Jean Ferris's other books :]
Wuthering Heights obviously.
okay so i should prolly stop before i start listing the whole contents of my library. and plus im not sure if these posts have a limit but if they do im sure i could reach it if i dont stop while im ahead. ;]
message me or reply or w/e if you want anymore.
oh and btw most of those are YA so there slightly easier reads than some might be looking for.
kay byeee. _________________ Twilight; where love sparkles, lust runs, and the weakest charecter holds the most power.
ooh scott westerfeld!
i read the first book of the uglies trilogy last summer and the second one is in my bookshelf, waiting to be read
what really bothers me is the sucks translation into german, because they use stupid words that make it sound like...i don't know-...a children's book. just sounds a bit silly. i don't know if the originals are like that too, but i doubt it.
so i might get peeps in english coz it sounds really good! _________________ oh Cedric....you're hotter when you're Edward Cullen!

I love Westerfeld's books. Do read the others, even if the translation's a bit dodgy. (That must suck bad btw!). Westerfeld actually got me writing a scifi fantasy novel! _________________

I'm still writing it at the moment, but it's all scifi fantasty stuff like Westerfeld's, eg the hoverboard thing (but I've made up my own) it's set in the future, and it's pretty cool but some of the ideas are also pretty gross (I wonder all the time about how I came up with it!) but I am very grateful to westerfeld for it. I'm actually writing it for three separate books (which if not successful I'll just merge together) - HEartless, Mindless and Fearless. It's pretty awesome. If you want, I'll talk more about it in the Calling All Writer's thread, so that we don't detract away from this one.
When I was in Borders, I sat there for like three hours and read this book called Private. I can't remember who it was by, but if you liked Gossip Girl, than this book is for you _________________

Private by Kate Brian?

I've been contemplating whether I should read the Twilight series for a second time before Breaking Dawn comes out. I probably will closer to the release date, but for now, what book better to read than The Host?? Seriously! I'm on page 260 or somewhere around there, and it's amazing. BUTTT, NOT AS AMAZING AS TWILIGHT, of course!

I haven't read the others - Private was very good though. Sort of like Gossip Girl, but without as much designer fashion, I thought
Yeah. Its a really good series. Keeps me reading which is sometimes a hard thing to do. Have you heard of a series called Ivy League by Diana Peterfreund? It's kind of the same thing except a little more mature. _________________ Twilight; where love sparkles, lust runs, and the weakest charecter holds the most power.
