I just watched Atonement for the first time tonight, and oh my goodness, what a great movie. It was so well done, and the acting is incredible. But above all the story is what makes the movie, and it is a sad, touching story.
Has anyone else seen it??

I've seen it. My mom said that she hated the ending, but I like it. _________________

I love it.
I have my issues with Keira Knightley but I lovelovelove her character in Atonement.
Little Briony is well cast while the nurse Briony is meh- she gives me the creeps.
The ending is sooooo sad. I almost cried in the movie theatre.
It is also a great book. And the movie is so well adapted. Only tiny editings, big edit with the end (about the interview thing) but still.....
A+ for this one. I loved it. _________________

I loved this movie. So much that I bought it for Mother's Day with the intention that I could watch it over and over again.
The thing I loved though, is that it is the only movie I have seen in a long time that actually sticks to the book pretty much all of the way (cept for the ending, which was changed big time!)
The acting was superb! Little Briony - wow. That girl. I so hope that she doesn't get eaten by the Hollywood monster. She has such a future ahead of her. Her movements - the twists and turns with the type writer at the start? So Briony. She perfected it.
I like Romola Garai as the older Briony, but she didn't have that omph needed still. She wasn't as strong as Little Briony. But I do like Garai, especially in Daniel Deronda. Daniel Deronda...Hugh Dancy... oops sidetracked there!
Back to Atonement:
I'm not a fan of Knightley, but she did so well in this role. Brilliant!
The way they managed to stick to the book with the different perspective is genius. People who haven't read the book probably won't understand as much why having the different perspectives is necessary to tell the story. Though it is pretty self explanitary.
The only problem (aparts from the ending) that I had was with Lola. They did Lola completely different to how I thought she was. But Juno Temple did well all the same. As much as I despised Lola during the first half of the book, I felt sorry for her.
LOVED IT! 9.5/10 from me!! _________________

In the book, Briony meets Lola and the Ammo guy at the library and the 'truth' comes out when her family is organising a birthday party for her.

loved the movie, loved the book. Its a beautiful film to watch, i think the director did a great job with the mood, and the settings. not to forget to mention, kiera's dress was soo pretty!
Ending was so sad, i defiantly shed a few tears. The typewriter in the score added a great touch to the movie, very dramatic! _________________

Kira's green dress was to die for.
I think it's being called this generation's answer to Audrey Hepburn's black dress.
Random fact I found online: It was auctioned off for charity for 46 thousand dollars! (http://www.clothesoffourback.org/product_info.php?products_id=1091)
Also, a really good NYT article about the dress: http://www.nypost.com/seven/12102007/entertainment/fashion/evergreen_617621.htm

wow 46 grand! thats insane! i would think they would put it in a museum or something for such a high-profile a costume.
Yeah i was reading it was voted best film costume, above yeah audrey's dress and Marilyn Monroe’s white dress.
I dunno about that tho, adrey's dress and Marilyn's are iconic. _________________

Yeah, Briney (that was her name, right?) was awful.
My great-great aunt looked just like the girl that played her in the movie. _________________

I took Cosmo-Jenny's advice and read the book. You should read the book if you have seen the movie it really enhances your understanding of everything. Like why the vase was so important to the Tallis family, gives you more of a sense of the history between Robbie and Cecilia....I just want to watch it again because I'm talking about it.
